فكان من بين تلك النباتات التي أستخدمها الإنسان نبات القنب الذي يستخرج منه الحشيش و الماريجوانا , و نبات الخشخاش الذي ينتج الأفيون و الذي يتم تصنيع المورفين و الهيروين و الكودائين منه حاليا , و بعض أنواع الصبار , ونبات الكوكا الذي يصنع منه الكوكائين في العصور الحديثة , و نباتات ست الحسن و الداتورة وجوزة الطيب و عش الغراب. فلما جاء الإسلام حرم تعاطيها و الاتجار بها , و أقام الحدود على ساقيها وشاربها و المتجر بها , و قد أكد العلم أضرارها الجسمية و النفسية و العقلية والاقتصادية , و مازال انتشارها , يشكل مشكلة خطيرة تهدد العالم كله .
فبمرور الزمن تعرف الإنسان في عصرنا الحالي على النتائج الخطيرة التي تنجم عن استخدام تلك المخدرات و العقاقير و المركبات و المشروبات الكحولية , بعد أن أصبح الإدمان أحد مظاهر الحياة المعاصرة . وتبين أن استخدام العديد من هذه المواد يؤدي إلى ما يسمى بالاعتماد البدني و الاعتماد النفسي .
و يشير الاعتماد البدني إلى حالة من اعتماد فسيولوجي للجسم على الاستمرار في تعاطي المواد التي أعتاد المرء على تعاطيها . و إن التوقف عن التعاطي يؤدي إلى حدوث أعراض بدنية مرضية خطيرة يمكن أن تنتهي في ظروف معينة إلى الوفاة , الأمر الذي يجعل المرء يعود مقهورا إلى استخدام تلك المواد لإيقاف ظهور هذه الأعراض البدنية الخطيرة .
وبعد أن كان المرء يتعاطى العقاقير أو المركبات أو المخدرات أو الكحوليات بهدف الدخول في حالة من اللذة و البهجة , يصبح تعاطي هذه المواد هادفا لإيقاف الأعراض البدنية المزعجة التي يثيرها التوقف عن التعاطي . و هكذا يصبح المرء أسيرا و عبدا للمادة التي أعتاد على تعاطيها و لا يستطيع الفرار منها إلا إذا اتخذت أساليب علاجية معينة لفترة طويلة. و عادة ما يتطور الموقف لأبعد من هذا , حيث يعمد المتعاطي إلى استخدام مواد أخرى جديدة بالإضافة إلى المواد التي أدمن عليها بهدف نشدان المتعة و المشاعر الأولى التي كان يستمتع بها من قبل.
إلا أنه بعد فترة وجيزة يعجز عن تحقيق ذلك , و يصبح التعاطي هدفا فقط إلى إيقاف الأعراض المؤلمة - المميتة في بعض الأحيان – التي يعاني منها المرء بمجرد توقفه عن استخدام تلك المواد . و أما فيما يتعلق بالاعتماد النفسي , فان ذلك يشير إلى نشوء رغبة قهرية نفسية شديدة من نشدان الحصول على المادة التي أدمن عليها المرء لتعاطيها. و تدور حياة المرء في حلقة مفرغة إذ أنه ما أن يتعاطى الجرعة التي أدمن عليها حتى يبدأ في البحث عن مصادر يستمد منها الجرعات التالية , الأمر الذي ينتهي به إلى التدهور اجتماعيا و اقتصاديا و مهنيا و إهمال شئون نفسه و أسرته . لذا يجب علينا أن لا نقف موقف المتفرج , بل علينا أن نشارك بكل ثقلنا و بكل ما أوتينا من قوة و إمكانات مادية أو معنوية .
فكلكم راع و كلكم مسئول عن رعيته , فعلى الآباء و المربون و أولو الأمر ملاحظة أبنائهم و احتضانهم و احتوائهم .
و في الوقت نفسه يكونوا القدوة و المثل لهم , و العين مفتوحة عليهم وعلى أصدقائهم و الأماكن التي يرتادونها هؤلاء الأبناء .

فبتظافر الجهود و بمزيد من الإيمان بالله سيتم القضاء على مشكلة المخدرات .
تعريف المخدرات :
التعريف في اللغة : المخدر :
بضم الميم و فتح الخاء و تشديد الدال المكسورة من الخدر – بكسر الخاء و سكون الدال – وهو الستر .
يقال : المرأة خدرها أهلها بمعنى : ستروها , و صانوها عن الامتهان .
و من هنا أطلق اسم المخدر على كل ما يستر العقل و يغيبه
التعريف العلمي :
المخدر مادة كيميائية تسبب النعاس و النوم أو غياب الوعي المصحوب بتسكين الألم .
و كلمة مخدر ترجمة لكلمة Narcotic)) المشتقة من الإغريقية (Narcosis) التي تعني يخدر أو يجعل مخدرا .
و لذلك لا تعتبر المنشطات و لا عقاقير الهلوسة مخدرة وفق التعريف , بينما يمكن اعتبار الخمر من المخدرات .
التعريف القانوني :
المخدرات مجموعة من المواد التي تسبب الإدمان و تسمم الجهاز العصبي و يحظر تداولها أو زراعتها أو تصنيعها إلا لأغراض يحددها القانون و لا تستعمل إلا بواسطة من يرخص له بذلك .
و تشمل الأفيون و مشتقاته و الحشيش و عقاقير الهلوسة و الكوكائين و المنشطات , ولكن لا تصنف الخمر و المهدئات والمنومات ضمن المخدرات على الرغم من أضرارها و قابليتها لإحداث الإدمان.
